What is the origin and meaning of the Miraculous Medal?

Quelle est l'origine et la signification de la médaille Miraculeuse ?

The story of the Miraculous Medal begins in 1830 on rue du bac in Paris when the nun Catherine Labouré spoke of several apparitions of the Virgin Mary at the convent.

During one of these apparitions, the Virgin Mary reportedly asked Catherine to have a medal made bearing her image. As a sign of the obviousness of her request, Catherine Labouré entrusted this task to Father Aladel, who had a medal struck depicting the apparition.

The medal was an immediate success, and many faithful reported receiving graces and miracles after wearing it.

A symbol of healing for the sick and of protection, the Miraculous Medal is a call to trust and faith in the intercession of the Virgin Mary.

The front of the medal depicts Mary with open hands, a sign of invitation and openness of heart. The rays emanating from her hands symbolize the graces and protection of her faith.

The prayer of the Medal, engraved on its edge, is to be recited with conviction to benefit from its protection: "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee."

On the reverse, the twelve stars representing the 12 apostles of Jesus encircle the "M" of Mary which supports the cross of Christ.

Below, the heart of Jesus on the left (sacred heart) is next to the heart of Mary pierced by a sword.

The Becker House is honored to offer this symbolic 750 gold medal to continue spreading the protection of the Virgin Mary.

Made in France in our Living Heritage Company workshops, this medal is ideal for a baptism or religious celebration. Suitable for young children and adults, it also makes a meaningful gift, perfect for a sacrament or important event.
